Formula
The fee reduces the amount before the rate is applied:
received = amount × rate × (1 − fee)
The rate is destination units for one unit you spend. Nothing on this page looks up a market rate. Display currency elsewhere on the site changes a symbol only, so this result is a plain number.
Assumptions
- You type the rate. It is not fetched.
- The fee is a percent of the amount, taken before the rate.
- The result is in destination units, not in the site's display currency.
Worked example
Spending 1,000 at a typed rate of 0.92, after a 2% fee, leaves 901.60 in the other currency.
Input definitions
- Rate
- How many destination units one unit of your money buys.
- Fee
- A percent removed before the rate is applied.
Limitations
This does not connect to a bank or a card network. The rate can be stale the moment you type it. It is not a quote.
Questions
Why is the result not in dollars or euros?
A display-currency switch only changes a symbol. An exchange has to use the rate you type, so the result stays a plain number of destination units.
Where does the rate come from?
From you. The page does not store or download a rate.
