Formula
The adult RDA often cited in the United States is 0.8 g per kg. A common midpoint of the ISSN training range of about 1.4 to 2.0 g per kg is 1.6:
Grams = kilograms × chosen rate
The macro page splits calories. This page only answers protein grams from body weight.
Assumptions
- The rate is a planning figure, not a prescribed intake.
- Weight is body weight, not lean mass.
Worked example
80 kg at 1.6 g/kg is 128 g of protein.
Input definitions
- Grams per kilogram
- Either the 0.8 g/kg adult RDA or the 1.6 g/kg training midpoint.
Limitations
This is an informational estimate for adults. It is not a diagnosis, a diet plan, or a training prescription. Pregnancy, illness, and medication can change what is appropriate.
Questions
Which rate should an athlete use?
This page does not choose for you. The 1.6 figure is a midpoint of a published training range, not a requirement.
Does this include calories?
No. Protein grams here come only from body weight and the rate.
