Formula
The extra is assigned to one person. What remains is divided equally, and any leftover cent stays with that person:
Shared share = (bill − extra) / people
The tip calculator adds a tip and then splits the whole bill equally. This page has no tip.
Assumptions
- Only one person has the extra charge.
- The extra is already part of the bill.
Worked example
A $90.00 bill split by 3 people, with $15.00 extra for one of them, means that person pays $40.00.
Input definitions
- Extra for one person
- An item or charge inside the bill that only one person should pay. Zero makes an even split.
- People
- How many shares to make, from 1 to 100.
Limitations
Leftover cents from the division stay with the person who has the extra, so the shares add back to the bill.
Questions
Where is the tip?
The tip calculator adds a percent tip and splits it equally. Add the tip to the bill before you use this page if you need both.
What if nobody ordered something extra?
Enter zero. The shares are then as equal as the cents allow.
