Formula
The 1990 Mifflin–St Jeor male equation is:
kcal = 10×kg + 6.25×cm − 5×age + 5
The female constant is −161 instead of +5. The TDEE page starts from this resting idea and then multiplies by activity. This page stops at rest.
Assumptions
- The equation is an adult estimate.
- No activity factor is applied.
Worked example
The male equation at age 30, 80 kg, and 180 cm estimates 1,780 kcal at rest.
Input definitions
- Age
- Age in whole years, from 18 to 100.
Limitations
This is an informational estimate for adults. It is not a diagnosis, a diet plan, or a training prescription. Pregnancy, illness, and medication can change what is appropriate.
Questions
Is resting energy the same as a daily total?
No. Daily totals on the TDEE and calorie pages apply an activity multiplier. This page does not.
Which equation is this?
Mifflin–St Jeor, 1990. The calorie page uses revised Harris–Benedict instead.
