Formula
Every number has the same weight:
Average = sum of the numbers / count
A weighted mean uses a second list of weights. The median is the middle value, not this average.
Assumptions
- Each entry is separated by a comma.
- Every number counts once.
Worked example
The average of 4, 8, 6, and 10 is 7.
Input definitions
- Numbers
- One or more values, separated by commas.
Limitations
Results are rounded for display. This is a classroom calculation, not a measurement from a lab or a financial filing.
Questions
How do I weight one number more?
Use the mean calculator and enter a weight for each value.
Is the average the middle number?
Not always. The median page finds the middle after sorting.
