Formula
Each course contributes its grade points times its credits. GPA divides that total by all credits:
GPA = sum(grade points × credits) / sum(credits)
Blank course rows are ignored. A row needs both credits and grade points.
Assumptions
- Grade points run from 0 to 4.
- Credits are the weight of the course.
- No plus or minus letter scale is applied beyond the points you enter.
Worked example
One 3-credit course at 4.0 and one 3-credit course at 2.0 produce a 3.00 GPA.
Input definitions
- Credits
- How much the course counts. A 4-credit course weighs more than a 1-credit course.
- Grade points
- The 4.0-scale value, such as 4.0 for an A or 3.0 for a B.
Limitations
Schools weight honors courses and letter grades differently. Enter the grade points your school assigns. This is not an official transcript.
Questions
How do I enter an A-minus?
Use the points your school publishes, such as 3.7, in the grade-points field.
Can I leave a course blank?
Yes. Empty rows are skipped. A row with only credits or only points is rejected.
