Formula
Additions are not treated as growth:
Growth = (ending − added − starting) / starting
The ROI page compares an amount invested with an amount returned and does not separate later additions.
Assumptions
- Added money is principal, not growth.
- The starting value is greater than zero.
Worked example
$10,000 that received $2,000 more and ended at $15,000 grew 30.00%.
Input definitions
- Money you added
- New principal contributed after the start. Zero is allowed.
Limitations
This is an estimate, not a loan offer, tax filing, or investment advice. The currency control changes the symbol only.
Questions
Why remove the money I added?
Otherwise a deposit looks like investment growth.
Can growth be negative?
Yes. If the ending value is below the starting value plus additions, the percent is negative.
