Formula
Hours become seconds, then bits become decimal gigabytes:
GB = Mbps × hours per day × days × 3,600 / 8 / 1,000
Streaming hours are one sitting. This page repeats the speed across days.
Assumptions
- The speed is an average, not a peak.
- Every listed day uses the same hours.
- A gigabyte is 1,000 megabytes.
Worked example
10 Mbps for 2 hours a day over 30 days moves 270 GB.
Input definitions
- Average speed
- The megabits per second you treat as typical while the connection is in use.
- Hours per day
- How long that speed is sustained on each of the days.
Limitations
This is a planning figure from the numbers you type. It is not a measurement of a network, a camera, a printer, or a power supply.
Questions
Is this a data cap?
It is the volume the habit would move. Compare it with a cap yourself. The page does not store a provider limit.
Why not enter a file?
A single file belongs on the download or bandwidth page. This page is the product of speed and time across days.
