Formula
Hourly pay divides the salary by the hours in the weeks you count:
Hourly pay = annual salary / (hours per week × weeks worked)
Fewer weeks raise the hourly figure, because the same salary covers fewer hours.
Assumptions
- The salary is the full amount being spread.
- Every counted hour is treated equally.
Worked example
A $60,000.00 salary over 40 hours and 48 weeks is $31.25 an hour.
Input definitions
- Weeks worked
- The weeks the salary should be spread across, from 1 to 52.
- Hours per week
- Hours in each of those weeks.
Limitations
This is not a billable freelance rate. The hourly rate calculator adds expenses and uses only billable hours.
Questions
How is this different from the salary calculator?
That page converts a known amount and locks a year at 52 weeks. This page starts from the annual salary and lets you set the weeks.
Why does a shorter year raise the hourly rate?
The same salary is divided by fewer hours.
