Formula
The markup is added as a percent of cost:
Price = cost × (1 + markup)
The markup calculator does the reverse: it starts from a known price and reports the percent.
Assumptions
- Markup is a percent of cost, not of the selling price.
- No separate overhead is added. Use cost-plus pricing when overhead is its own amount.
Worked example
A $25.00 cost and a 60% markup set a price of $40.00.
Input definitions
- Markup
- The percent of cost added to reach the price, from 0 to 1,000.
- Cost
- The base that gets marked up.
Limitations
This is a planning estimate, not accounting, tax, payroll, or advertising advice. The currency control changes the symbol only.
Questions
I know the price and want the percent. Which page is that?
The markup calculator. This page builds the price from the percent.
How do I price from a margin instead?
Use the product pricing calculator. It divides by one minus the margin.
