Formula
Time is distance over speed, then shown in hours and minutes:
hours = distance / speed
Miles stay with miles per hour, and kilometers stay with kilometers per hour. The clock is rounded to the nearest minute. A drive with stops, and a flight from two coordinates, are separate pages because they add something this division does not.
Assumptions
- The speed stays at the number you enter.
- Stops, traffic, and wind are not added.
- The distance unit matches the speed unit.
Worked example
240 miles at 60 mph takes 4 h.
Input definitions
- Distance
- How far the trip is, in miles or kilometers.
- Speed
- The steady pace for that same unit.
Limitations
A mapped drive can be longer than the straight distance, and a planned speed is not a guarantee. Running pace stays on the health calculator because it answers minutes per distance, not hours for a trip.
Questions
Can I estimate a flight?
If you already know the route distance, enter it here with a speed. The flight duration page starts from two coordinates and adds taxi time.
Does this include fuel?
No. Fuel cost uses economy and a fuel price, and it stays on the automotive calculator.
