Formula
Moving time is distance over speed. Each stop adds its minutes:
hours = distance / speed + stops × minutes / 60
The clock rounds to the nearest minute. The trip time page is the division alone. A flight from coordinates is a different page.
Assumptions
- The speed is the moving speed, not an average that already includes stops.
- Every stop lasts the same number of minutes.
- Distance and speed are both in miles.
Worked example
420 miles at 60 mph, with 2 stops of 20 minutes, takes 7 h 40 min.
Input definitions
- Stops
- Planned pauses. Zero leaves a pure driving time.
- Minutes per stop
- How long each pause lasts.
Limitations
Traffic can add time this page does not know. The speed is the one you type.
Questions
How is this different from trip time?
Trip time is distance divided by speed. This page adds the minutes you plan to stop.
Can the stops be zero?
Yes. The result is then the same division, in miles.
