Formula
The product of the three sides is divided by one million, then multiplied by the carton count:
CBM = length × width × height / 1,000,000 × cartons
The shipping-volume page uses inches and cubic feet. Volumetric weight divides centimeters by a divisor and is a different page.
Assumptions
- Dimensions are centimeters of the packed carton.
- Every carton is the same size.
- No pallet or dunnage is added.
Worked example
Ten cartons of 120 by 80 by 100 centimeters are 9.6 m³.
Input definitions
- CBM
- Cubic meters of the cartons, before a container's lost space.
Limitations
A container load is limited by the internal shape as well as by CBM. The container page fits cartons into that shape.
Questions
Why divide by 1,000,000?
A meter is 100 centimeters, and the volume conversion is 100 cubed.
Is CBM the chargeable weight?
No. Chargeable weight compares a scale weight with a volumetric weight. This page stops at volume.
