Formula
Fat is treated as 9 kilocalories per gram:
Grams = calories × percent / 100 / 9
The macro page locks fat at 30% and also splits protein and carbohydrate. This page answers only the fat grams.
Assumptions
- Every fat gram is 9 kcal.
- The percent is a share of the calorie total.
Worked example
Thirty percent of 2,000 kcal is 66.67 g of fat.
Input definitions
- Fat share
- The percent of calories assigned to fat.
Limitations
This is an informational estimate for adults. It is not a diagnosis, a diet plan, or a training prescription. Pregnancy, illness, and medication can change what is appropriate.
Questions
Does this separate saturated fat?
No. The result is total fat grams from the calorie share.
Why is the divisor 9 instead of 4?
Fat's energy factor here is 9 kcal per gram. Carbohydrate and protein use 4.
