Formula
One second is 1,000 milliseconds:
milliseconds = 1000 / frames per second
The result is rounded to two decimal milliseconds. Video frame rate uses this same conversion, so it is not a second page.
Assumptions
- Frames are evenly spaced.
- The frame rate is the number you type, not a measured average with stutter.
- The result is budget per frame, not input lag.
Worked example
144 frames per second is a frame time of 6.94 ms.
Input definitions
- Frame rate
- Frames per second.
Limitations
Even spacing is the ideal. A displayed average of 144 FPS can still include frames that take longer than this budget.
Questions
What is 60 FPS in milliseconds?
1,000 divided by 60 is about 16.67 milliseconds.
Is frame time the same as click latency?
No. Frame time is only how long one frame lasts. Input processing and the display add more delay.
