Formula
The parts are the output. The wall sees that output divided by efficiency:
watts = (graphics + processor) / efficiency
The PC power page sums more parts and stops at the component side. The PSU page then picks a catalog size. This page is the wall draw of the two big gaming loads.
Assumptions
- Graphics and processor are the loads you want to include.
- Other parts are left out on purpose.
- Efficiency is a single percent.
Worked example
220 W of graphics and 90 W of processor at 90% efficiency draw 344.4 W at the wall.
Input definitions
- Graphics
- The watts the graphics processor draws under the load you care about.
- Supply efficiency
- The share of wall power that reaches those parts.
Limitations
This is a planning figure from the numbers you type. It is not a measurement of a network, a camera, a printer, or a power supply.
Questions
Why is the result larger than 310 W?
310 W is the parts. At 90% efficiency the wall must supply 310 divided by 0.9.
Where are the fans?
On the PC power page. This page keeps the gaming pair separate so the wall draw is not a full parts list.
