Formula
Effective DPI is the product of those two settings:
eDPI = mouse DPI × in-game sensitivity
The number is useful inside one game. Two games can use different sensitivity scales, so the same eDPI is not automatically the same feel.
Assumptions
- The sensitivity uses the scale of the game you are setting.
- Windows pointer speed and aim acceleration are left unchanged.
- The DPI is the sensor setting, not a polling rate.
Worked example
800 DPI at 0.5 sensitivity is an eDPI of 400.
Input definitions
- Mouse DPI
- The dots-per-inch setting on the mouse.
- In-game sensitivity
- The sensitivity number in that game's settings.
Limitations
eDPI does not account for field of view, raw input, or a different game's sensitivity curve. Monitor PPI for games is the screen PPI calculator.
Questions
Can I copy eDPI from one game to another?
Only when both games interpret sensitivity the same way. Otherwise treat eDPI as a note for that game.
Does this change the mouse?
No. It multiplies the two numbers you already use.
