Formula
Only a positive gain is taxed:
Tax = (sale − basis) × rate
There is no holding-period rule and no national gains table. A loss produces zero tax here.
Assumptions
- Cost basis is the amount you type, already adjusted.
- One rate applies to the whole gain.
Worked example
Selling for $15,000 something that cost $10,000, at 15%, is $750.00 of tax.
Input definitions
- Sale proceeds
- What you receive from the sale. Zero is allowed.
- Cost basis
- What the asset cost you. Zero is allowed.
Limitations
This is an estimate, not a loan offer, tax filing, or investment advice. The currency control changes the symbol only.
Questions
What if I sell at a loss?
The tax result is zero. This page does not calculate a deduction.
Are long-term and short-term rates different?
Only if you type a different rate. The page does not choose one for you.
