Formula
Subtract the Fahrenheit freezing offset, then scale the degree:
°C = (°F − 32) × 5/9
The Celsius-to-Fahrenheit page uses the inverse of this formula.
Assumptions
- The scale follows the ITS-90 offset: 0 °C is 273.15 K.
- A Fahrenheit degree is 5/9 of a Celsius degree.
- The result is shown with up to two decimal places.
Worked example
32 °F equals 0 °C.
Input definitions
- Fahrenheit
- A temperature from absolute zero, −459.67 °F, upward.
Limitations
Weather 'feels like' temperatures are not converted here. Only the thermometer reading changes scale.
Questions
What is freezing?
32 °F is 0 °C.
Why can the result be negative?
Any Fahrenheit reading below 32 is below the Celsius zero.
