Formula
Ohm's law for the voltage across a resistor is:
Volts = amperes × ohms
The current page and the resistance page rearrange the same law. This page always solves for voltage.
Assumptions
- The component follows Ohm's law.
- Current is amperes and resistance is ohms.
Worked example
2 A through 10 Ω is 20 V.
Input definitions
- Current
- The current through the component, in amperes.
- Resistance
- The resistance, in ohms.
Limitations
This is a classroom calculation. It is not a laboratory procedure, a wiring plan, or a measured instrument reading.
Questions
What if I know voltage already?
Use the current or resistance page. This page does not solve for those.
Does this include a battery's internal resistance?
Only if that resistance is already part of the ohms you type.
