Formula
Energy is the distance divided by efficiency:
cost = miles / (miles per kWh) × price per kWh
Rounded to the nearest cent. The fuel cost page uses gallons or liters. This page uses kilowatt-hours.
Assumptions
- Efficiency stays at the miles per kilowatt-hour you type.
- The price is per kilowatt-hour, with no session fee.
- Currency changes the symbol only.
Worked example
100 miles at 3.5 miles per kWh and $0.15 per kWh costs $4.29.
Input definitions
- Efficiency
- Miles the car travels on one kilowatt-hour.
- Price per kWh
- The charging rate you type. No network price is stored.
Limitations
This is a trip sketch. Prices and rates are numbers you type. The currency control changes the symbol only and does not convert one currency into another.
Questions
Why not use miles per gallon?
An electric car buys kilowatt-hours. The comparison with gasoline is on the EV versus gas page.
Does this include a charging-session fee?
No. Add that outside the page. The formula is energy times the rate.
